An ACT TO INCREASE SAFETY OF HOSPITAL PATIENTS
- LD# 1538

Sponsored by the Maine State Nurses Association [MSNA], if passed this legislation will:
- Mandate Safe Staffing by setting direct-care nurse-to-patient staffing ratios necessary
  for safe nursing care and for retention and recruitment of qualified direct-care RNs.
- Recognize direct-care nurses’ duty and right to be a patient advocate.
- Provide effective protection against retaliation for reporting unsafe patient care
  and for refusing unsafe patient care assignments.

HEARING UPDATE:
The legislature heard testimony on An Act to Increase the Safety of Hospital Patients LD #1538 on Friday MAY 4th, at 10:00 A.M., at the Statehouse in Augusta.
In the coming days the Labor Committee will be holding a work session and then voting on this bill (list is at the end of page).
